More than just a game.
The canonical reference for every visual decision across hub, predictor, YouTube and social. Every other surface points here.
The world's biggest event inside an empire brutalising the people football belongs to.
Identity
Who Terra FC is. Why it exists. The editorial gravity that holds every visual decision in place.
Thesis
The world's biggest event inside an empire brutalising the people football belongs to.
Every research question, every editorial piece, every angle is tested against this line. It is the gravity well.
Character
Gonzo Gatsby — journalist from Terra, a parallel world where football has cosmic stakes. Real identity: Stefan P in a hot-pink balaclava. Archetype: Bugs Bunny — knows how it ends, always one step ahead, wry contempt for chaos. Eastern European accent. Press credential. The Last Kobayashi is Gonzo's future self.
Universe
Terra is a parallel world where Earth football results have physical consequences. River Knot: England wins, red 77 years; Germany wins, blue. Order of Kobayashi: time-travelling warriors of light.
RS//DF//TFC#1Brand Properties
Three properties. Every surface, every piece, every CTA must read as at least one of these — ideally all three.
A unique approach that is both remarkable and insightful.
Move on gut. Document the why later. Every editorial decision is felt before it is formalised. The thesis is the gravity; instinct is the steering. We do not wait for permission to take a position.
fails when the piece reads "balanced". When it sounds like a press release.
Anti-platform. Anti-LCD. Lateral by default. The monopoly broadcast model produces lowest-common-denominator coverage because a single supplier holds the rights. We work in the gaps it leaves open — political edge, cultural context, the things "neutral" broadcasters will not say.
fails when the angle could have been written by ESPN.
Fans are not hollow. The audience is the subject, never the target. Every piece is written assuming the reader is smarter, angrier, more curious than the LCD broadcaster gives them credit for.
fails when the piece reads like content. When it speaks to viewers as a market.
Logo System
Primary mark, variants, application rules. The wordmark uses Futura Condensed ExtraBold Italic with hand-tuned kerning. The bolt is a separate vector that can be used standalone.
Terra FC. Flat 2D italic wordmark with a two-tone lightning bolt. Bolt is purple body with a Terra Green offset edge.
Variants

Kerning
The wordmark sets Futura Condensed ExtraBold Italic with kerning manually pulled to −100% between T-E and R-R. The T pushes into the E; the two R's kick together. This is the wordmark's signature — never adjust it.
Rules
Do's
- Use V2 on cream / paper / white surfaces. Black wordmark, full punch.
- Use V4 on black / dark surfaces. White wordmark, no surrounding stroke.
- Maintain the manual kerning at all scales — T-E tight, R-R kicked.
- Use the bolt standalone where space is constrained (favicon, sticker, watermark, IG story corner).
- Respect minimum clear space — T-height on all sides.
- Pair the bolt with the wordmark, never two competing marks on the same surface.
Don'ts
- Do not change the bolt colour. Purple body, Terra Green offset.
- Do not add drop shadow, 3D, gradient, or stroke.
- Do not re-introduce pink as a wordmark colour.
- Do not letter-space the wordmark wider than the locked variant.
- Do not place the V1 (deprecated) on any surface.
- Do not place the wordmark on busy / photographic backgrounds without a contrast surface behind it.

Typography
Two brand typefaces plus utility mono. Forum carries display chrome. Futura Condensed carries the wordmark and brand sans across all weights. Space Mono gives the cosmic edge — bracket metadata, hex codes, dotted-zero IDs.
Each surface picks one of these. No mixing typographic registers within a single surface.
Why Futura
Futura is not a neutral font choice. It is part of the editorial argument.
Designed in 1927 by Paul Renner at the Bauhaus edge — democratic-modernist by intent, geometric by construction, populist by use. Renner refused to join the Nazi party, was removed from his teaching post, and the typeface he designed got briefly co-opted by the Reich, then reclaimed.
In 1968, Lance Wyman set the visual identity of the Mexico Olympics in Futura — a Global South host nation asserting itself against the imperial visual order of the IOC. The plaque the Apollo program left on the moon is set in Futura. Stanley Kubrick used it. JFK used it. Nike's "Just Do It." Every counter-establishment use of the typeface threads through the same logic: built for everyone, claimed by the people the empire wouldn't see.
That is the editorial thesis. The typeface that Mexico used to claim the 1968 Olympics is the one Terra FC uses to claim 2026 — from the people football belongs to, not the empire.
Color
Five colours. No more. White, Purple, Green, Black, Gold. Every surface, every register, every accent draws from these.

Illustration
The canonical bolt mark plus the brand's conceptual references. Texture leans into the constraint — we work around what we cannot show.
The Bolt
The lightning bolt is the brand's separable mark. Lives as a single SVG path, recolored via CSS currentColor. Used at any size, on any surface that needs the brand without the wordmark.
The bolt also represents audio. Lightning is the visual signal of a sound wave — the radio bolt, the broadcast strike. The brand is language first (written editorial leads), audio second (pirate radio / RV register on selected games). When the bolt appears on a surface alone, it signals: this is the audio register. When it appears beside the wordmark, it is the brand mark. Same shape, two readings.
Conceptual References
Five locked references. All pre-platform-capital media. Each one is its own conceptual lens — the brand draws from the spirit, not the surface.
Texture & Constraint
Right now the brand guide is clean. The 90s Nike feeling in the logo is intentional — bright, confident, parental. But the deeper move is the constraint: we will not have rights to most World Cup visual material. We work in the space around the broadcast — second-screening, sourced texture, the things the rights-holder ignores. Eat Big Fish as the strategic frame: a beautiful constraint forces a sharper brand.
Future direction: introduce strategic texture moments — old print, photocopied feel, screen artifacts, found type — that gesture at the editorial's sourced nature. Clean wordmark, dirty edges. This is open for v0.5.
Surface Registers
Four registers. One per surface family. The register is locked at the surface, not at the content.
Pre-internet broadcast register. Banded panels, fixed-width VT323, color-coded by topic, page numbers with dot leaders. CRT scanline + vignette overlay.
2026 FIFA World Cup Predictor. Stencil-on-concrete visual lens (Nike Scorpion '02). Paint-edge type, paper-strip rows on dark surface, hand-drawn bracket diagrams. No sub-brand — uses the Terra FC mark.
Cinematic broadcast register. Space Jam '96 + Nike Secret Tournament '02 motion. Selected games only. Stream static frame = teletext-page render or wordmark hold.
Editorial documentation register (this surface). Cream paper, Forum + Futura, monospace [bracket] metadata, restrained five-colour palette. The only surface that sees brand decisions from outside.
Components
Reusable patterns with live demos. The predictor demo uses the Terra FC brand directly — no sub-brand.
inventory v0.4
- Teletext: status bar · brand band · content band · gold signup · service index · sign-off
- Predictor: match card · leaderboard row · stencil signin (TBD)
- Brand Master: hero · section head · KV table · swatch · type specimen · register card · property tile · logo card · do/don't column · pull quote · reference box · bolt swatch
Content pipeline · news ticker
The teletext hub doubles as a live news ticker. Same way Ceefax pages 100, 120, 127 refreshed on a schedule, the hub's content band re-renders as match data and editorial signals arrive. The pipeline:
[input] API-Football → results · injuries · lineups · subs
Media monitor → news · social · breaking
Research → culture · fashion · food · politics
↓ tag · triage · per-game thread
[process] Knowledge Op → one long-form topic per game (Substack)
→ live-feed items (news ticker / IG flashes)
→ match-time commentary (WA Live · YouTube audio)
↓ multi-surface output
[output] Teletext hub → real-time news ticker
WA Daily → text bulletin
WA Live → match-time updates
IG → visual flashes
Substack → one long-form per game (culture · fashion · food · politics)
YouTube → audio commentary (selected matches · RV register)
Predictor → real-time results · auto-lock · scoring
This pipeline is operational architecture, not visual design — it lives outside the brand guide in CMD-P/ADMIN as the Production Schedule + Publishing Schedule + Media Monitor commands. Surfaced here so the brand decisions on the teletext hub are read as live news surface, not static documentation.
Voice & Tone
How Terra FC sounds. Gonzo Gatsby is the persona, the editorial is the register, the multilingual nod is the discipline.
Persona
How we sound
Short. Sharp. Slightly cosmic. Anti-platform. We write like someone who has watched football for a hundred years and is mildly amused by what each new generation thinks is the biggest match of all time. We do not editorialize — we observe, then point.
Do
- "FIFA Fan Fest sits where the protest fell." Observational. Lands the politics by stating geography.
- "Three months ago, the stadium was a courthouse." Specifies time. Specifies what it was. Lets the reader do the math.
- Render country names in local language: MÉXICO, POLSKA, NEDERLAND, MARROCOS.
- Use the dash. The clause. The unfinished sentence.
- Sign off every long-form piece with the locked line.
Don't
- Hot-take television talk. "I'll tell you what — this is huge!"
- Manufactured rivalry framing. "Two teams that hate each other."
- Brand-safe both-sidesing. "There are arguments on both sides."
- Anglicize country names when the local form is recognisable.
- Speak to the reader as a market.
Multilingual nod
Country names render in their local language wherever readable. MÉXICO, POLSKA, ITALIA, NEDERLAND, MARROCOS. The typography itself acknowledges that the people the tournament belongs to do not call their country what English calls it.
Open Lexicon · banned phrases · long-form sentence-rhythm samples · interview voice — Voice Guide v0.5 will fill these out.
